Why CompTIA A+ Course?

Whether you are considering entering the computer industry or considering advancing your career, the A+ certification is a must!  A+ certifies the abilities of PC Service Specialists and will help you to maximise your income. It is also a pre-requirement for anyone interested in MCSE certification training. Getting certified is the best investment you can make in your IT career.

CompTIA A+ is a basic industry requirement!

COMPAQ, Hewlett-Packard, Apple, IBM, Minolta, and Toshiba either require or recommend their personnel and service centres become certified. When hiring, many employers give preference to applications with A+ certification. Some companies even require A+ certification as a condition of employment.

What is CompTIA A+?

A+ certification is an industry-recognised credential that certifies the competency of PC Service Specialists. A+ certification is a non-vendor, non-product specific industry ‘standard’ programme that certifies the competency of entry-level service technicians. It ensures that the recipient possesses the knowledge and skills essential to being a successful computer service technician, as defined by experts in the industry.

The A+ is sponsored by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA). The programme is backed by over 50 major computer hardware and software manufacturers, vendors, distributors, resellers and publishers. A+ certification provides a wealth of benefits to any person seeking a job in the computer industry.

A+ was developed to:

    • Set an industry-wide, internationally recognised standard of basic competency levels in the field of computer service
    • Maximise efficiency in recruiting, hiring, training and promoting employees
    • Meet the needs of today’s information technology workforce by certifying individuals with in-demand skills
    • Provide job seekers identifiable career paths, transferable skills and credentials that are industry recognised
    • Produce the standards necessary for educators and trainers to better prepare individuals to meet today’s job requirements.

How the A+ program is developed and updated

Developing the A+ service technician test modules is a rigorous, continuous and thorough process, resulting in statistically proven validity and reliability. A long list of CompTIA member companies, including the world’s largest technology vendors, distributors, resellers, and third-party maintenance organisations, joined together to develop the A+ test. Committees have developed a certification program that is relevant to the technology industry as a whole. They contributed enormous resources to ensure that all aspects of the A+ Certification examinations meet the highest quality standards.

Hands-on service technicians used their real-world experience to define the test content. The questions were written by experts in the field of microcomputer service. A multi-level review process for all the questions ensures that they are accurate as well as psychometricly sound. Those who participate in writing the questions and reviewing them are confident that candidates will find the test tough but fair.

Based on real-world practices and professional experiences

The skills and knowledge measured by this examination are derived from an industry-wide and worldwide job task analysis which was validated through a survey of almost 2,000 A+ certified professionals. The results of the survey are used in weighting the domains and ensuring that the weighting is representative of the relative importance of that content to the job requirements of a service technician with six months on-the-job experience. The intent is to certify individuals in a body of knowledge that is identified and accepted as the baseline or foundation of any entry-level PC technician.
